Saturday is my birthday and to celebrate I’d like to do something different-I want to give someone else a gift and I hope you’ll help.

Here are the details:

My friend Marla Taviano (who I met as an Internet friend but then we got to meet in person because of 52zoos.com) and her cool family are going to Cambodia on a mission trip this summer. They’ll be traveling with a group from their church and as with most mission events participants need to raise funds to cover travel expenses. That’s where your help comes in.

For this weekend, starting Friday June 5th (my birthday) I will contribute part of the proceeds from any books I sell from my websites. I need purchases to be from my site and not Amazon or B & N because once they take their cut, there’s not much left over and I want to give more than that

Today I spent my time talking to a couple hundred students at St Peter Lutheran in Macomb, MI and it was awesome! I was so impressed by the good behavior and attention, but even more so by the questions they asked.

If I’d have made a list of questions ahead of time, several of the ones they came up with would have never crossed my mind. They asked about the book, how the book was made and sometimes into quite a few of the nitty gritty details. They also asked questions about the animals in the book. Sometimes I knew the answer sometimes, not. Hopefully, that part of the talk showed them it’s okay to say “I don’t know” rather than pretend or make something up.

But I have to say what really touched my heart was that in just about every class, at least one child asked me either how I knew God was leading me to write this book or how did I put together the animals with things about our faith. And these were kids 6th grade and under! How cool is that?!

I truly hope at least some of the kids were inspired either in faith, in writing, in whatever way they can apply what I said, but I am also so very thankful for the way they inspired me.

This past Saturday was the craft show at St Paul Lutheran in Lapeer MI where I had a table. It was a great day!

I truly appreciated the support of my book both in sales and just in people saying they hoped I was going to do well, even though they didn’t have anyone to buy the book for. The raffle was very cool too. Thanks to all of you who entered to try to win the book, my cup overfloweth

Sometimes authors get discouraged and I’ve had my moments in recent weeks. Thank you for making my day in so many ways! Maybe we can do it again next year

I am blessed to be visiting St Peter Lutheran School Macomb on November 19th. I’ll be talking to the 1st through 6th grade classes throughout the day and sharing lots of fun stuff about Creation Inspirations, writing and being an author.

For those of you who don’t know me, St Peter was my church home for about 15 years (my parents, Carl & Marguerite Beck are still members) and I was also blessed to participate in the youth group lead by Bob Hoch (that was during  high school at LHN just a few years ago . It is truly an honor to be able to meet with the kids and I’m sure I’m going to learn a bunch too!
